On Friday September 20th, ESSEC Business School met the institutional partners of # Campus2020, to symbolically mark the launch of this important project for the school. Three new buildings will come out of the ground by 2023 on the historic campus of Cergy.
The birch seeds which were sown on this occasion will become trees on tomorrow’s ESSEC campus. On Friday, 20 September, ESSEC’s board and its institutional partners officially kicked off the launch of the # Campus2020 project. In the course of the next three years, a new “Sports & Recreation Center”, a “Research Green Tower” and a “Center for Creative Learning” will be built, to position the campus experience offered by ESSEC at the level of the best international academic standards, with a definite eco-responsible orientation.
“ESSEC is proud to participate in the reinvention of Cergy, 50 years after the creation of the new city“, welcomed Vincenzo Esposito Vinzi, Dean and President of ESSEC Business School. “We had to be faithful to our pioneering spirit and contribute to this renaissance as a place of creation and dissemination of knowledge, so that the local anchoring of the school goes hand in hand with its global impact, in all areas of society. “
Several local authorities were among the partners invited to sow the first seeds of this project. They have chosen to contribute financially to this major project for the Greater Paris area. The Ile-de-France region thus contributed € 9 million, while the Val d’Oise Departmental Council and the Cergy-Pontoise Community funded € 5 million each.
“Here in Cergy we definitely want to build a truly international campus”, said Valérie Pécresse, President of the Ile-de-France Region. “ESSEC is a jewel, a leader in apprenticeship opportunities, and in the Ropes to Success program. This model of learning and inclusion is a source of inspiration for the Ile de France.”
As to Marie-Christine Cavecchi, president of the Departmental Council of Val d’Oise, she welcomed this “forward looking project of excellence, like the department. ESSEC is a Val d’Oise and French nugget, focused on innovation, excellence and anchored in its territory.”
“This is a new stage for one of our emblems”, said Dominique Lefebvre, president of greater Cergy-Pontoise. “This extension project includes different challenges: make ESSEC a school increasingly competitive internationally, and maintain the attractiveness of the territory by contributing to the transformation of the Grand Center of Cergy. This is very good news for the town and for the school.”
From now on, a new stage will open for this project with the forthcoming opening of a major fundraising campaign led by the school and the ESSEC Foundation. The groundbreaking is planned for the beginning of the year 2020.
